Spellstones are different enough from most other wearables you may discover.

A spellstone that awakens blue magic abilities. Since the knowledge of blue mages who continued to pursue the ultimate form of blue magic is sealed in it, as long as one has an aptitude for blue magic, one can learn abilities of enemies just by praying silently while holding it in one's hands. The Spellstone has 2 Spells (take them from the Spell deck, look at them, and place them on this card). It will cast the Spells whenever you wish.

By now, it's impossible to come across one naturally. It seems all of them were located and claimed by some ancient civilization that now ceised to exist, leaving behind only the ruins of their creations. And among that ruins they lie, waiting for some brave explorer like you to harness their power.
The features each spellstone can offer are divided in two categories: Passive and Active.

The banner saga 3 fight. Passive abilities are usually a permanent traits and effects that might trigger with certain chances or constantly, regardless of player's actions or desires.

Each stone may also possess one active ability, that can be triggered with special keybind and will then go on certain cooldown before you can use it again. If a stone has no active ability whatsoever, it will be marked as 'Absent', and pressing the keybind in this case won't have any effect.
